BCC Cigar Review: La Gloria Cubana Serie R

Created by Ernesto Carrillo, the La Gloria Cubana brand has been indisputably perfected. And the Serie R, the first extension line from the brand, is perhaps the best example of his masterful craft. Cradled in Ecuadorian-grown Colorado shade wrapper, or Connecticut Broadleaf maduro, the team described the Serie R as having “powerful, refined flavor which comes from a proprietary blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos.” The product of this series is a rich, spicy, full-bodied version of La Gloria Cubana’s usual suspects.

The warm brown wrapper contains few visible flaws and is chock-full of aromatic and extensively aged blends of Mexican, Dominican, Brazilian and Nicaraguan tobacco, radiating palpable scents of earthy tobacco and cinnamon. A prelight draw elongates the notes of toasted spice and leaves them tingling the tongue.

Once lit, the draw is smooth, with billowing smoke floating from each puff. An ashy white burn holds steady as the flavor profiles build on the palate. The earthy tobacco and spice remain prevalent, intertwined with hints of wood and pepper. The finish is complimented by the evolving depth of this cigar and a delicate balance of traditional flavors. Rich and robust, the creamy Serie R, available now at any BCC location, is distinctively satisfying.

BCC Cigar Review: Perdomo Champagne

Perdomo Cigars Champagne series is often appreciated by smokers of all levels who enjoy a variety of flavor profiles.

The Connecticut Shade wrapper of the Reserve 10th Anniversary edition alluringly envelops rich Nicaraguan fillers. The noticeable absence of veins draws only more attention to the perfect construction; The density of the stick was admirably uniform from head to foot. A cold draw gave an aroma with simple hints of light and classic tobacco.

An impeccably smooth draw kicked off the smoke upon torching, with an abundance of creamy, light smoke drifting in the atmosphere. The Champagne introduced subtle spice to a fresh palate, eventually evening out with nutty flavors and remnants of toast. As the stick evolved, the spice gave way to notes of nuts and dried grass. A solid and compact light gray ash was left in the wake of a slow, even burn.

However mild, this Perdomo series invites traditional flavors that ought to be appreciated by smokers of every class. The smooth creamy character and gentle spice makes it a great smoke for any occasion- especially alongside a cup of coffee on a cool spring morning.
