BCC Cigar Review: Monte Pascoal

Monte Pascoal cigars, voted the Best Brand of 2011 by Cigar Journal, are made from the finest Brazilian tobacco and aged for a minimum of two years but because of excessive regulation have become some of the few remaining Brazilian puros in the world.

They are rolled with centuries-old Cuban influence, containing varied blends of Mata fina and Mata norte. While the Mata fina supplies an elegant bouquet and the Mata norte provides the body, the differing blends of each vitola produce a unique flavor experience.

The construction is constistent, evenly packed with a slight give. The sticks are wrapped in a rustic, velvety casing that gives off an earthy aroma. The earth notes are present in the pre-lit draw with hints of cedar. Upon lighting, the ash held strong for around and inch without a need for adjustments.

But that’s just the beginning- the flavors are where this smoke really hums. It greets the smoker with earthy, wood flavors and a subtle pepper taste. The smoke developed in the second third and coated the palate with noticeably grassy and sweet cinnamon notes. The bittersweet flavors were reminiscent of dark chocolate, still blending with earthy and wood flavors that carried through the end in a smooth and creamy finish.

Despite its seemingly common notes, the medium-bodied flavors are rich and ever-evolving. Try one for yourself at either Broadway Cigar location.
